Maurice Mierau won the ReLit award for poetry in 2009 for his book Fear Not (Turnstone). His memoir Detachment, about adoption, childhood trauma, and fatherhood, will appear with Freehand in their 2014/15 season. Mierau’s first book of poems, Ending with Music (Brick, 2002), was described by the U of T Quarterly as a “marvelously energetic performance.”

Mierau’s work has been published in Canada’s major literary magazines for more than two decades. Recent poems, essays, and reviews appear in Arc, Event, the Malahat Review, Rhubarb, and Grain.

Mierau grew up in the US, Winnipeg, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Saskatchewan. He holds an MA in English from the University of Manitoba, and edits fiction for Enfield & Wizenty and on-line for The Winnipeg Review.
