Veralyn Warkentin

Veralyn Warkentin has worn many hats in the theatre including performer, director, producer, and playwright. She has assistant directed at the Manitoba Theatre Centre (now Royal MTC) in the productions of “Our Town”, “Lost in Yonkers”, and the Keanu Reeves’ “Hamlet.” Her Irish Famine play, “Like the Sun,” commissioned by Winnipeg’s Tara Players was produced in Winnipeg and Milwaukee, with subsequent productions in Chicago and Limerick; it was also included in the 1997 compilation Canadian Mosaic II: 6 Plays. Veralyn’s full-length play “Mary & Martha” was produced by the Winnipeg Mennonite Theatre in 2002, as runner-up in WMT’s 20th Anniversary Playwriting Contest. A One Act version of “Mary & Martha” was performed by Winnipeg’s Shoestring Players at Gimli’s Aspire Theatre in 2011 and the 2012 Winnipeg Fringe Festival. Veralyn lives dramatically in Winnipeg where she most recently directed the Two Ladies on a Bench outdoor production “Is it Wednesday” by Pam Calabrese MacLean for the 2013 Fringe Fest. Veralyn also loves teaching writing workshops in short fiction, creative non-fiction and scriptwriting.
