The Mennonite Literary Society launches 9 Mennonite Stories, a twin to Rhubarb issue 41, Thursday October 19th at X-Cues Cafe & Lounge, 551 Sargent Avenue, at 7:00 pm. There is no cover charge at this new venue for Rhubarbarians, with lots of room, and the usual popular Thursday night X-Cues live band jam follows at 9 pm.
The 9 Mennonite Stories stories were selected by David Bergen, illustrated by Murray Toews, and are introduced by Maurice Mierau. All three will be at the launch. The nine illustrations will be screened during the evening, while Dora Dueck, whose story “The Mask” is featured in this anthology of Mennonite fiction, and Armin Wiebe, with an excerpt from The Salvation of Yasch Siemens, round out the evening.
Hildi Froese Tiessen, editor of 11 Encounters with Mennonite fiction, a twin to Rhubarb issue 42, will speak about the genesis of the book of essays, and invite everyone to its launch the next day on Friday at 1 PM in the Eckhardt Gramatté Hall as part of the Mennonite/s Writing Conference at the University of Winnipeg (October 19 to 21).
