Grace Nickel

Grace Nickel is a ceramic artist, professor of fine art at the University of Manitoba, and member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. She grew up near Plum Coulee in southern Manitoba, and gained her BFA at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and her MFA from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Nickel’s international career was launched in 1989 by an award won in the Mino Ceramics Competition in Japan. She recently spent seven weeks working closely with the skilled porcelain masters of Jingdezhen, China, investigating traditional methods and new technologies.
